For Disruption, their latest ski line, the traditional US iconoclasts K2 is leaving familiar freeride terrain and going into the world of piste performance bringing its high-end ski technology to the slopes. Disruption means everything from scratch, starting everything new. The new K2 piste line was inspired by the feel of pulling Gs, mashing on that downhill edge, turn after turn, lap after lap – not for World Cup points and podium finishes but to have maximum fun on the snow.
For Disruption, the development team once again worked with current and former athletes to build the best possible skis for every piste situation. Although not every day is a powder day, off days on days without fresh snow are a thing of the past. At the heart of the Disruption series is the newly developed Dark Matter Damping (DMD) technology.
High modulus carbon and polymeric dampers are strategically placed over the edges of the ski. DMD reduces vibrations and chatter along the edge and offers drastically improved edge contact for a smoother, more planted arc in hard and rough snow.
Disruption MTI and Disruption STI are the names of the K2 men's skis for 2020, both of which feature Dark Matter dampening technology and a Titanal-Sheet to ensure better stability and ideal energy transfer along the entire length of the ski. While the K2 Disruption MTI skis calmly through any turn and offers stability in higher speed and all snow conditions, the Disruption STI is characterized by its maneuverability. Even on hard slopes, the ski is easy to turn, making turns elegant and sleek and offering full control in extreme situations and on steep slopes.
The women's models have been specially designed for female winter sports enthusiasts and meet the tough demands of the athletes of the K2 Women's Alliance. The Disruption MTI Alliance offers a comfortable ride thanks to new Dark Matter damping technology and can take it all: whether it's a leisure race or a morning downhill run. For all women who like it more manoeuvrable, the Disruption SC Alliance is a ski that is easy to turn. It has the new damping technology integrated at the ski tips. Carbon reinforcement also ensures secure edge hold.
If you're not fast, you're last! A truly unique ski race took place in Garmisch-Partenkirchen from January 13 to 15, 2020. At the K2 Disruption Cup, K2 Skis not only presented the new Disruption line of piste skis in front of around 250 trade partners and press representatives from all over Europe. K2 athletes battled against each other in the first Disruption Cup Race in a direct 1:1 match and tested the new collection for its performance. The winner was Florian Eckert (GER), second was K2 athlete and ambassador of the new Disruption line Warner Nickerson (USA), and third came Florian Eigler (GER).
Stefan Stankalla, Sales Manager at K2 Skis and a former World Cup skier himself, about the Disruption Cup: "After almost three days with around 250 trade and press representatives from all over Europe, we are very proud of the successful launch event of our new K2 Disruption ski line. The presentation was extremely successful and the feedback at the test on the slopes in Garmisch was consistently positive. The highlight was of course the race, which was a great demonstration of the fun performance of our new models. In K2 style, we also celebrated with everyone in the evening. Now we are happy to present Disruption at the ISPO in Munich.
